Cuttack: A student of Ravenshaw University was arrested on Friday for allegedly circulating some obscene photographs of his girlfriend on social media.
The accused was identified as Subhrajit Ray, a final year BBA student. He was earlier suspended by the university for two years for his alleged involvement in a clash that took place at Lalitgiri hostel.
Subhrajit was nabbed by police from Chauliagunj area after the victim lodged a written complaint against him at Malgodown police station, stating that he had posted her obscene photographs on social media and even physically assaulted her inside the campus after she rejected his love proposal.
“The matter has been handed over to Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) for investigation. Disciplinary action will be taken against the student, if found guilty,” informed University Vice-Chancellor Ishan Kumar Patro.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 341, 294, 323, 354 and 506 of the IPC. He has been forwarded to court, a police officer said.
