Mumbai: Virat Kohli scripted history at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain on Friday scoring a century in his 500th international match for Team India.
The former captain made 121, before being run out, in India’s first innings of the second Test against the West Indies here on Friday. His 206-ball knock, studded with 11 fours, helped Inda reach 354/5 ahead of lunch on Day 2.
It was the 34-year-old Kohli’s 29th Test hundred, and 76th in international cricket, to go with 46 ODI tons and 1 in T20 Internationals.
Kohli’s knock was also special because it was his first overseas Test century in nearly five years. He has now gone past Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 75 international hundreds.
None of the 9 other cricketers — Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, MS Dhoni, Shahid Afridi, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid — to have played 500 international matches before Kohli scored even a 50 in their respective 500th game.
