New Delhi: Finance secretary of India AB Pandey said that the huge collection of Goods and Service Tax (GST) shows that India’s economy is on recovery path and government should be given credit for bringing changes at the system level for better compliance.
“Record-high GST collection of over Rs 1.15 lakh cr in Dec is because our economy is on path of recovery. We’ve brought many changes at system level for better compliance. We’re taking targeted action against those who have discrepancies in their record,” Pandey was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
However, the highest jump in the GST collection was seen in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. With a growth of 68 per cent year on year, the collection in December 2019 was Rs 154 crore and in 2020, it stood at Rs 259 crore, according to a report in India Today.
