Record High Of Over 75K Cases Pushes India’s COVID-19 Tally Past 33 Lakh

New Delhi: India’s COVID-19 tally sprinted past 33 lakh on Thursday to stand at 33,10,234 with the addition of a record 75,760 infections overnight.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and went past 30 lakh on August 23.

Also, 1,023 more patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said. India’s Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 1.83 per cent is one of the lowest globally.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh continue to report the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

About 76.24 per cent (25,23,771 ) people have recovered from the infection with 56,013 patients being discharged on Wednesday. Another 21.90 per cent (7,25,991) are still under treatment.

The number of recovered people is more than three times the number of active cases in the country. The total number of COVID-19 testing labs increase to 1,550 including 557 private labs while there are Real-Time RT PCR labs including 335 private ones.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 3,85,76,510 samples have been tested in the country so far, including 9,24,998 on Wednesday.
