‘Reduce Usage Of Cooking Oil In School Meals By 10%’: Govt Directs States & UTs

New Delhi: The Union Education Ministry has directed concerned authorities across the country to reduce use of cooking oil in school meals.

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern about child obesity, which he highlighted during his Pariksha Pe Charcha 2025 and Mann Ki Baat episode last month, School Education & Literacy department secretary Sanjay Kumar has written to all State/UT Education departments, school authorities and other stakeholders asking them to implement a 10% reduction in cooking oil usage in school meals.

In a post on X, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted four key points of the advisory — Reducing oil consumption in cafeteria meals and hostel cooking; Training Cook-cum-Helpers under PM POSHAN to adopt healthier cooking methods; Raising awareness among students, parents, and teachers through competitions & discussions; Encouraging fitness activities like exercise and yoga.

“The goal is to promote healthier eating habits and ensure the well-being of our students. Let’s work together for a healthier future!” wrote Pradhan.
