Bhubaneswar: A rehabilitation centre for transgender beggars with an intake capacity of 50 members will be set up in Odisha capital soon.
The department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has approved the proposal of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
Under its beggar-free initiative, the BMC along with Commissionerate Police and voluntary organisations rescued beggars from different places of the city. Beggary on road side has been prohibited, said BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary.
This rehabilitation home is a preliminary step by BMC and a first-of-its-kind initiative in Odisha.
A request for proposal (RFP) will soon be floated to select service providing agency for the rehabilitation home, the Commissioner added.
