Islamabad: In another twist to the political drama in Pakistan, the Supreme Court said on Thursday said that the decision to reject a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan was erroneous.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial noted that National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri’s ruling on Sunday is, prima facie, a violation of Article 95.

A five-member bench — headed by CJP Bandial – of the apex court heard the National Assembly proceedings case for the fifth consecutive day today.

“The real question at hand is what happens next. We have to look at national interest,” Dawn quoted the Chief Justice as saying.

The top court is expected to rule on the “unconstitutional” act by the Deputy Speaker this evening.

Ahead of the announcement of the verdict, security commandos have been deployed inside the premises.

After President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on Sunday, the Opposition moved the Supreme Court challenging the order and calling it unconstitutional.

Imran has alleged a foreign conspiracy is trying to remove his government from power and named US diplomat Donald Lu as the man plotting the plan.
