Relief For Ram Rahim: Petition Opposing Rape Convict’s Parole Rejected

Chandigarh: Rare convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim got a reprieve when Punjab & Haryana High Court on Monday rejected a petition challenging the order to grant him parole.

Ram Rahim, convicted of rape and murder, has been sentenced to 20-year jail term. He is currently out of prison after being granted 40-day parole on October 14 from Rohtak jail.

Chandigarh-based lawyer HC Arora had filed a petition in high court seeking cancellation of parole for Ram Rahim.

The lawyer pointed out that the Haryana government’s decision to grant parole proved that a convict remains a “darling of the politicians, who were bowing down before him every day.”

The high court raised questions on maintainability of the petition and directed Haryana government to dispose of Arora’s representation within a week.

Despite serious allegations against Ram Rahim, devotees continue to seek out Ram Rahim. Thousands from across India took part in a virtual programme of Ram Rahim in Panipat on Sunday.

Also present at the programme were first civil mayor of Panipat city Avneet Kaur, deputy senior mayor Dushyant Bhatt, district councillor and senior BJP leader Lokesh Nagar and Ward 3 councillor Anjali Sharma.
