New Delhi: Two years into the pandemic, if your patience is being tested by COVID-19 messages on dialling a number, relief is round the corner.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has ordered all telecom operators in India to remove pre-call COVID-19 announcements, PTI reported.
COVID-related messages had replaced normal caller tunes after the outbreak of the pancemic in March 2020. The idea was to create awareness on coronavirus, spread protective measures and stress on the importance of vaccination.
Now that India has seen off the third wave and the daily caseload is low, the government believes the purpose has been served.
Not only were the long-winding messages irritating people, they were overloading the network and delaying calls.
The approval of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was also taken before decision to do away with COVID caller tunes was finalized, PTI reported.
