Relief To 15-Yr-Old Heavy Vehicles: Odisha Govt To Issue Temporary Permit
Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to issue temporary permits for four months to heavy vehicles which are more than 15 years old.
In a letter to the State Transport Authority (STA) and Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs), the Commerce and Transport department has stated that they can issue the temporary permit for not more than 4 months.
“As provided under clause (d) of sub-section (1) of section 87 of the Act, STA and RTAs without following the procedure laid down in section 80, may grant permits to be effective for a limited period which shall not in any case exceed four months at a time pending decision on an application for renewal of a permit and may attach to any such permit such condition as it may think fit,” the letter said.
As per the vehicle scrappage policy announced by the Central government last year, the vehicles older than 15 years will not be issued re-registration after April 1, 2023. Such vehicles can be sold as scrap to the dealers authorised by the government.
In Odisha, the State Transport Authority and RTAs used to issue permit to heavy vehicles for five years.
