Renowned Footballer-Coach Subhas Bhowmick Passes Away
Kolkata: Former India footballer and coach Subhas Bhowmick passed away following prolonged illness at a medical facility here on Saturday.
Bhowmick (72), known as ‘Bhombol da’ on the Kolkata Maidan was admitted to the hospital with diabetic problems and kidney ailments. He died at around 3.30 am on Saturday, the hospital sources said.
He was a striker and represented both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan besides representing India in several international tourneys.
Bhowmick achieved huge success as a footballer as well as a coach. He coached East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting, Salgaocar and Churchill Brothers. East Bengal won the international ASEAN Cup under his coaching in 2003.
