Resources No Issue, Centre To Ensure Access To COVID-19 Vaccine
New Delhi: The Centre said on Monday that resources will not be an issue to ensure access to COVID-19 vaccine once it is ready, reported The Times of India.
The recipients’ prioritisation will be done till there is a limited supply of the vaccine. The government also urged states to take a national approach while engaging pharmaceutical companies and deciding the criteria for the shots, according to the national daily.
Also heading the National Expert Committee on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19, Niti Aayog member (health) Dr VK Paul underlined the government is working on the prioritisation plan for vaccine distribution in the initial phase till mass production picks up.
“We’re working in the committee to look at our approach towards vaccine scale-up and implementation as and when safe and effective vaccine becomes available. In that regard, the access to vaccine will be in such a way that if vaccine supply is not unlimited, prioritisation has to be done and prioritisation principles will determine — based on the availability of the vaccine — who should be getting the vaccine. Overall, we can say with responsibility that resources will not be an issue in ensuring access to vaccine as it unfolds,” Paul was quoted as saying by TOI.
