Bhubaneswar: A retired government officer allegedly murdered his wife by slitting her throat in Odisha’s capital city on Wednesday.
As per sources, this incident occurred at the couple’s residence in Swasti Nagar under Airfield police limits. Police have detained the 62-year-old husband and are questioning him.
Priyambada Sadangi was married to Debaraj Sadangi for 30 years and they have a daughter. She is married and lives at Patrapada with her family. The accused had retired as a Senior Accounts Officer at a Central government office. Speaking to a local news channel, their said, “I spoke to my parents last evening and everything sounded normal. My father was depressed about suffering from health issues, believing he would not heal. But, I had reassured him. He visited me today, handed over my mother’s jewellery and left stating he had some work.”
The deceased woman’s elder sister also cited that her brother-in-law was suffering from depression. “My sister had told me that her husband does not speak to her and is suffering from depression. She told me to keep it a secret, since her husband did not want anyone to know about this,” she told a news channel.
Airfield police have registered a case and begun an investigation. Scientific team is scanning the residence and surroundings to gather clues. The accused is being interrogated at the police station. The motive behind the gruesome murder has not been established. Police said further details will be available as the probe progresses.
