Retired Paramedical Worker Gets 2-Year Jail Term In Bribery Case In Odisha
Bhubaneswar: A retired paramedical worker was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for two years by a special Vigilance court in Odisha’s Sundargarh on Wednesday in a bribery case.
Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh awarded the jail term to Dhananjaya Panigrahi, ex-paramedical worker, Birkera Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sundargarh district after convicting him for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant for preparation of birth certificates of his sons, an official release said.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 1,000 on Panigrahi and ruled that in default of payment of the fine he has to undergo further RI for one month more for the offence under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.
The Court further sentenced Panigrahi to undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year and a fine of Rs 1,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 1 month more for the offence under section 7 of P C Act,1988.
Both the sentences are to run concurrently, the court said.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the stoppage of the pension of Panigrahi following his conviction.
