Paradip: Defying prohibitory orders clamped under Section 144 of CrPC by Jagatsinghpur district administration, hundreds of retrenched workers of Cargill India refinery plant in Paradip on Wednesday staged demonstration in front of the main gate of the company in demanding jobs at Adani Wilmar Limited.
“We demand immediate jobs in the company which has bought the Cargill India Company where we were working since long. As many as 152 workers, who were engaged for packing in the edible oil processing plant, have lost their jobs. They have vowed to continue their protest till employment opportunities are not provided to them by the company authorities”, one of the agitators said.
Adequate police personnel have been deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
The workers had also staged a similar protest before the plant in April this year after the company was shut down due to losses and later gheraoed Paradip police station over the same demand.
Apprehending tension, the district administration had also imposed restrictions under Section 144 near the plant premises.
However, the agitators had withdrawn their protest after getting assurance from police and company officials to consider their demands.
