Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in an affidavit to Bombay High Court on Monday, stated that Rhea Chakraborty stored drugs in her house and allowed Sushant Singh Rajput to consume it.
In the 18-page affidavit, NCB mentioned that Rhea is involved in financing the illegal trafficking of drugs.
NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede told the court that Rhea and her brother Showik are a part of a large drug syndicate that supplies drugs to the entire film industry, reported Mid-Day.
Justifying Rhea’s arrest under Section 27A, the affidavit stated, “Electronic evidence such as WhatsApp chats and others were retrieved from mobile phones, laptops, and hard-disk and it indicated payment made for the drugs. There is ample evidence to show that the present applicant has not only regularly dealt with drugs but also financed illicit trafficking of it.”
NCB opposed the bail plea filed by Rhea and stated that if she is granted bail, she would inform the others involved in the case, thereby hampering the investigation.
Rhea and her brother are well connected with the drug peddlers in the city, claimed NCB.
Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde argued in the court that Section 27A (punishment for financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders) of the NDPS Act was not applicable in the case.
The hearing in the case is underway.
