Mumbai: Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani and Vivek Oberoi’s adult comedy ‘Mastiii 4’ has landed in legal trouble following plagiarism allegations.
A month-and-a-half after the film hit theatres on November 21, content creator Ashish Sharma has filed a case against the makers in Delhi High Court, alleging that a key scene in ‘Mastiii 4’ has been inspired by his viral Instagram reel.
Ashish claimed that his Insta reel titled ‘Shaq Karne Ka Nateeja’, posted in January 2024, had garnered over 11 million views.
In his plea, the content creator alleged that the movie makers copied the central idea, character interactions, sequence of events, and even the comic punchlines from his reel, without seeking his consent or giving any credit to him.
Demanding a permanent injunction against the filmmakers, the content creator has sought financial compensation, along with full profit report for unauthorised use of his original work.
Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, presiding over a single-judge bench, heard Ashish’s plea for urgent relief on Wednesday.
Considering the film’s upcoming digital release, the court issued a notice to the producers, directing them to present their response before any interim order is passed.
The next hearing is scheduled for January 13, 2026.

Earlier, the film had stirred a controversy for objectifying women and promoting extramarital affairs.
Addressing the controversy, actor Aftab Shivdasani had clarified that the film was meant for entertainment purpose, and not for promoting any moral values.
“From Masti 1, people said we were objectifying women and promoting extramarital affairs. But the premise of the film was simple: three men want to have fun outside, but end up learning a lesson from their wives. We were never trying to preach. It’s all for entertainment, not to oversensitise people. Many serious films have tackled the topic of affairs, but no one questions those,” Aftab was quoted as saying by Times Now.
“There are many independent films about extramarital affairs, but when Masti touches on it, it causes a big stir. It’s only for fun and people should not take it seriously,” Aftab said.
Besides the lead actors, the film also stars Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri, Elnaaz Norouzi, Ruhi Singh, Shreya Sharma, and Shaad Randhawa in pivotal roles.
The film is expected to hit OTT platforms this month.
