Bhubaneswar: Timely intervention by the Railway officials helped a woman deliver a baby inside a train at the railway station, here on Saturday.
The woman, identified as Ayesha Khatun, was travelling with her husband and mother-in-law in Howrah-Yeshvantpur Express train. Before the train reached Bhubaneswar, Khatun developed labour pain and her relatives informed the Railway officials in the train.
The train officials sought urgent assistance from the Bhubaneswar railway station considering the emergency of the case, according to East Coast Railway sources.
When the train arrived at the station at around 4.45 pm, a team of ‘Meri Saheli’ went to the compartment where Khatun was travelling. All the passengers in the compartment were vacated and the medical team led by the Railway doctor helped Khatun deliver a baby boy. The condition of both mother and the baby was stated to be normal.
Later, the newborn and the mother were admitted to Capital Hospital, here for further medical care, the sources added.
