Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a significant fall in the number of accidents and road deaths after the amended MV Act came into force.
Between September 1, 2019, and December 2019, the state reported 355 accidents which is 9.93 per cent less than the mishaps in the same period the previous year. Similarly, there were 201 road deaths during these months in 2019 registering 12.29 per cent less than in 2018, according to Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera.
Similarly, the number of accident cases between January and March 2020 was 177 less than the figure in the same period in 2019 with 5.78 per cent reduction. The road deaths also came down by 227 cases this year than the previous year’s figure registering 14.36 per cent fall.
The amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act, passed by the Parliament, came into force from September 1, 2019.
