Road Caves In At Odisha’s Puri Affecting Vehicular Movement
Puri: A portion of an important road caved in at Chakratirtha in Odisha’s seaside pilgrim town of Puri, causing inconvenience and posing danger to the public.
According to sources, Puri Chakratirtha road caved in soon after a passenger bus passed through the site on Monday. While the passengers of the bus narrowly escaped from a mishap, 5 ft wide ditch has been created on the road.
The incident took place near Bedi Hanuman Temple on Chakratirtha road, which connects the pilgrim town with another tourist destination Konark.
Vehicular movement has reportedly come to a grinding halt on the route due to the following the incident as the affected stretch has been sealed by the municipal authorities.
Both sides of the road have been closed by the civic body. The local residents as well as tourists are facing a tough time following the incident.
The local people have complained that such incidents are taking place in the area frequently due to the negligence of the civic authorities and the government.
Claiming that a similar incident had taken place on the road a few months ago when a sewerage pipeline had burst, local residents said the repair work done in a hurried manner ahead of Rath Yatra was shoddy. They demanded immediate steps to properly reconstruct the road for the safety of people.
