Mumbai: In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, ‘Singham’ director Rohit Shetty revealed that he plans to make a female cop film with Deepika Padukone as the lead heroine.
The ace filmmaker further stated that, though he has the basic storyline of ‘Lady Singham’ in mind, it will definitely take time for the script to get ready and the film to go on floors.
“We still have to write it. We do have a concept in mind but we don’t know where we can go with it. There’s still time for that. I know what the character will be like and her basic story arc but I don’t know her whole journey yet as a director or writer,” said Rohit.
“But a female-led cop film headlined by Lady Singham will definitely happen, otherwise we wouldn’t have introduced her at all. There’s a reason why we’ve emphasised on that character and her name in Singham Again,” confirmed the director.
When asked why he didn’t introduce a lady cop earlier in his cop universe, Rohit replied, “The wait was to get the right script and the right kind of launch for the character. Till 2018, I wasn’t even sure if there’s going to be a cop universe. When Simmba worked, people accepted that we can bring in other characters and create a universe. That’s when we made Sooryavanshi and it was during this film that we thought of making a film with an out-and-out lady cop.”
The Ajay Devgn starrer 2011 ‘Singham’ marked the beginning of Rohit Shetty’s cop universe. The blockbuster movie was followed by ‘Singham Returns’, ‘Simmba’, ‘Sooryavanshi’ and the latest being ‘Singham Again’, which left cash registers ringing this Diwali.
‘Singham Again’ featured Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff and Deepika Padukone in prominent roles. ‘Dabangg’ Salman Khan too had a guest appearance in the movie. Deepika was introduced as lady cop Shakti Shetty in the cop universe.
