Bhubaneswar: Rourkela was the coldest place in Odisha at 8.1 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours followed by G Udayagiri, the hill station in Kandhamal district, at 8.4 degree Celsius and Jharsuguda at 9.8 degree Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Dense fog also engulfed Rourkela, Koraput and Phulbani this morning, reducing visibility to 50 metres.
The mercury also plummeted below 15 degree Celsius in twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, which recorded 14.5 degree Celsius (-1.5) and 13.4 degree Celsius (-1.1) respectively.
The other places which recoded temperature below 15 degree Celsius are Phulbani (10) and Daringbadi (11) in Kandhamal, Chimplima (10.3) in Sonepur, Boudh (10.4), Angul (10.6), Keonjhar (10.6), Kirei (11) in Sundargarh, Semiliguda (11) in Koraput, Sundargarh (11.2), Bhawanipatna (11.2) in Kalahandi, Baripada (11.6), Dhenkanal (12), Talcher (12.6), Balangir (12.6), Sonepur (13), Balasore (13.1), Mahisapat (13.2) in Dhenkanal, Sambalpur (13.4), Hirakud (13.7), Titlagarh (13.8), Chandbali (14) and Ranital (14.2) in Bhadrak, Kendrapada (14.2), Nayagarh (14.5) and Jagatsinghpur (14.8).
The weather agency has warned of dense fog at one or two places in Sundargarh, Koraput, Kandhamal till Saturday morning. Shallow to moderate fog may also occur at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Ganjam, and Kalahandi till Sunday morning.
It further stated that the minimum temperature is unlikely to witness any major change during the next 3 days and thereafter gradual rise by 2-4 degree Celsius during the subsequent 2 days.
