Rourkela: The COVID-19 tally in Odisha’s Sundargarh district touched 2236 with an overnight addition of 126 new cases.
Among them, 73 cases have been detected Rourkela while two are Corona Warriors. The remaining cases have surfaced in different localities in the district.
One more positive cases have been reported from NIT, Rourkela campus, taking the total to 10. It’s a residential campus in which 360+ faculty members and 700+ staff and their families are residing.
Faculty members, who have to take online classes from their respective department, are concerned over their safety.
A source informed that the college administration is also planning to ask students to return to the campus and termed it as highly risky.
“I remember, VSSUT, Burla, was sealed and shut for 10 days when one case was reported there. Here, we have 10 cases and the institute still open and it is business as usual,” the source added.
According to the tweet by the district administration, two cases at NIT-Rourkela were confirmed on July 31 and another seven on August 6.

With 17 deaths and 1423 recoveries, the district now has 793 active cases.
