COVID-19: India’s Tally Crosses 21 Lakh Mark With Record Single Day Surge

New Delhi: A record single-day jump of 64,399 new coronavirus patients has taken India’s COVID-19 tally past the 21 lakh-mark, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.

With the latest surge, the country’s coronavirus caseload has risen to 21,53,011, which includes 6,28,747 active cases.

Besides, 861 COVID-19-related deaths were registered in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s toll to 43,379 as on Sunday.

The ministry also informed that over 14.8 lakh patients have recovered so far.

India’s recovery rate stood at 68.78 per cent on Sunday morning, as compared to Saturday’s 68.32 per cent.

Meanwhile, the positivity rate — an indicator to assess the prevalence of the disease — stood at 8.95 per cent on Sunday, an improvement from 10.28 per cent on Saturday.

About 2.41 crore samples have been tested across the country so far, including 7.19 lakh samples on Saturday, according to the government.
