Royal Bengal Tiger Camera Trapped In Odisha’s Sundargarh After 2 Decades

Sundargarh: After almost two decades, a Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT) has been sighted in forests of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.

Sharing the news, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda on Monday said that the tiger cell of NTCA confirmed that it had migrated from Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. “Must have traveled few hundred miles to carve out its new territory in Odisha. Welcome,” he posted on X along with its pictures and folded hands emoji.

According to recent All Odisha Tiger Estimation 2023-24, conducted by the Odisha government, the forests in the state have 30 adult tigers and eight cubs. While Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district houses 27 of the adults (14 female and 13 males) and all of the cubs, one adult male each has been sighted in the Hirakud Wildlife Division, Paralakhemundi Territorial Forest Division and Greater Similipal tiger landscape.

Of the 27 adults in Similipal, 13 (seven females and six males) are pseudo-melanistic.
