Bhubaneswar: A Royal Bengal tiger escaped from the enclosure inside the Tiger Safari of the Nandankanan Zoological Park, here, sparking panic among the visitors for several hours on Thursday.
According to sources, the zoo staff had gone to the enclosure to feed the tiger Suraj. But they did not find it inside the enclosure and informed the zoo authorities.
The security staff inside the zoo immediately evacuated the visitors from the premises and launched a search operation. After an hour-long search, the zoo staff found Suraj inside the safari.
The zoo authorities allowed entry of the visitors and normalcy was restored.
Stating that the Royal Bengal tiger escaped after snapping a portion of the iron net of the enclosure, the zoo authorities said the big cats have the tendency to escape as they don’t like to stay inside the enclosure for a long time.
