Berhampur: A passenger was saved from coming under a running train due to brave effort of an RPF constable in Berhampur railway station of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
As per reports, the passenger, identified as Jayshankar Munda Sakmuthi under Jakhalabandha police station of Nagaon in Assam, jumped from a running train at platform number 1 of the railway station in the afternoon. But he fell down after losing balance and started sliding towards the running train. At this time, RPF constable Suryakant Sahu rushed to him and pulled him away, saving him from a major mishap.
Following the rescue, the RPF rushed Munda to a local hospital. After he was discharged from the hospital, Munda told the media that he along with his wife had boarded a train from Jakhalabandha to go to Chennai. They travelled in a general compartment as they could not get berth in reserved compartment. They had planned to get down at Berhampur and take another train to Chennai.
As per their plan, Munda and his wife got down at Berhampur and booked ticket for Chennai. As a train came to platform number 1 at around 12.30 pm, Munda got into it to check the vacant seat. Soon after, the train started moving and he realised that it was the wrong train.
Since his wife was still at the platform, he jumped out of the train but lost balance. Fortunately, RPF constable Sahu saved him from going under the running train.
