Chennai: After its huge commercial in India and abroad, SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘RRR’ is also getting critics’ praise.
There couldn’t have been a better recognition of the film than validation from Hollywood.
‘RRR’ was on Wednesday nominated for Best Picture by the Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) for its Midseason Awards.
It’s the first time that an Indian film has been bestowed with such honour.
The Hollywood Critics Association presents awards twice a year — in February and July — which are called the Midseason Awards.
According to the nominations announced by the body, RRR – starring Ram Charan, Jr NTR and Alia Bhatt – will be competing against popular Hollywood movies like Top Gun: Maverick, The Batman, Elvis and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
The awards will be announced on July 1.
Rajamouli’s film is the story of two revolutionaries in India in the 1920s. It became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, raking in over Rs 1100 crore at the box office.
It was subsequently released digitally on Netflix globally, and drew praise from the likes of Bollywood actor Patton Oswalt and Doctor Strange screenwriter C. Robert Cargill.
