Bhubaneswar: The Special Court of Vigilance in Bhubaneswar on Friday ordered confiscation of disproportionate assets valued at over Rs 1.27 crore belonging to Prafulla Kumar Panigrahi, a former executive engineer at Jonk Canal Irrigation Division in Odisha’s Nuapada.
According to a Vigilance release, the confiscated properties include immovable assets, including a multi-storeyed building at Tulasi Nagar in Berhampur, along with three plots at Rajendra Nagar Sahi, Tulasi Nagar, also in Berhampur. These assets were found to be disproportionate to Panigrahi’s known sources of income.
Panigrahi was previously charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) and 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for allegedly possessing these assets beyond his legitimate earnings. Following the trial, he was convicted by the Special Judge at the Special Court in Bhubaneswar on March 31, 2014.
