Bhadrak: A fine of Rs 38,500 was imposed on a mini-van driver for violating traffic rules on Saturday.
According to sources, police intercepted the mini-van at Charampa during motor vehicle checking.
The fine was imposed as the driver did not have a driving licence and documents of permit and fitness of the vehicle.
In Bhubaneswar, an auto-rickshaw owner and its driver also felt the heat of the revised traffic rules when they were fined a whopping Rs 47,500 by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for violating traffic rules on Wednesday.
The challan was issued against the vehicle owner, Nayagarh resident Kanduri Khatua and the driver, Haribandhu Kanhar of Badagad. Haribandhu was reportedly intercepted for drink driving near Acharya Vihar Square in the city.
In an attempt to improve road safety, the Centre has implemented revised traffic rules from September 1. The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which was passed in Parliament last month, attracts harsher penalties for traffic violations.
