Bhubaneswar: India’s rich heritage in livestock breeding is on full display at the ongoing Matsya O Pranee Samavesh in Odisha capital, where two exceptional animals have emerged as major attractions.
A 4.5-year-old Murrah bull named Inder, valued at an estimated Rs 4 crore, and a five-year-old Kankrej bull, celebrated for its royal gait, are captivating visitors, breeders, and enthusiasts alike. These animals highlight the blend of traditional indigenous excellence and modern scientific management in India’s dairy and draught cattle sectors, an official release said.
Inder: A Rising Star Among Elite Murrah Bulls
Hailing from Karamveer Breeding Farm in Haryana’s Kurukshetra, Inder represents the next generation of scientifically bred, performance-driven Murrah genetics. It weighs an impressive 17 quintals at just 4.5 years old, reflecting exceptional growth, strength, and genetic potential. His powerful frame, balanced body structure, and commanding presence make him a standout in elite buffalo breeding circles
Maintained under a strictly monitored, nutrition-rich feeding programme, Inder consumes approximately 28 kg of feed daily, including 5 litres of milk, 2 kg of curd, green chickpeas, broken wheat, wheat, pearl millet, and soybean. This premium dietary regimen ensures optimal stamina and consistent reproductive performance. The total daily feeding and maintenance cost is approximately Rs 4,000, highlighting the high level of care invested in this exceptional bull, the release further stated.
His rapid physical development and high demand for quality Murrah traits have led to an estimated market value of Rs 4 crore, positioning him among the most valuable animals in the country, it added.
Kankrej Bull: The Royal Symbol of Power, Grace, and Performance
Complementing Inder is a magnificent five-year-old Kankrej bull, a breed globally admired for its legendary “Sawai Chal” — the distinctive “king’s gait” where the hind legs extend beyond the front ones, enabling faster and more efficient draught work.
This bull exemplifies the Kankrej’s classic features: lyre-shaped horns, a strong skeletal structure, and a well-balanced physique. Standing at 5 feet tall and weighing approximately 700 kg, it reflects outstanding robustness, functional efficiency, and adaptability to harsh climates.
As a dual-purpose breed, the Kankrej is prized for superior draught power, disease resistance, and contributions to milk productivity in crossbreeding programmes. Its calm yet dominant temperament and long working life make it a favourite among progressive farmers.
To sustain peak health, the bull follows a structured, protein-and energy-rich diet including green gram, oil cakes, broken wheat, concentrated feed, chickpea, rice bran, and sesame bran. The monthly feed and maintenance investment stands at approximately Rs 40,000, underscoring the premium care dedicated to this elite animal.
