Rs 6.61 Lakh Unaccounted Cash Seized From 2 Vehicles In Odisha During Pre-Poll Crackdown
Balangir/Sambalpur: Uncounted cash to the tune of Rs 6.61 lakh was seized from two vehicles during search and checking by the police in Balangir and Sambalpur districts of Odisha ahead of the twin elections
While Rs five lakh was seized during checking near Bijakhaman Balangir, Rs 1.61 lakh was recovered from a man near Nildungri gate in Sambalpur district, police sources said on Tuesday.
In Balangir, police seized Rs five lakh from a car during line checking near Bijakhaman on Balangir-Deogaon Road on Monday night. As the person carrying the cash failed to give any satisfactory answer, the police seized it and detained him for interrogation. Police handed over the seized money to the flying squad.
In a similar operation in Sambalpur district, flying squad of police recovered Rs 1,61,800 and seized the entire money from a man during vehicle checking near Nildungri gate. The man was identified as Amit Kumar Jaiswal.
Notably, police had seized Rs 20 lakh from a car during vehicle checking at Bhadrasahi Chhak under Barbil police limits in Keonjhar district on May 3. The cash was found stashed in two bags inside the car. While it is not clear to whom the cash belongs, the driver of the car has fled the spot.
