Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has received Rs 67,000 crore investment intents during the third edition of the Odisha Renewable Energy Investor Conclave 2026, being held in Bhubaneswar on February 12-13.

These commitments target approximately 6.8 GW of renewable energy capacity, bolstering Odisha’s role in India’s push toward 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy by 2030, an official release said.

The conclave inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who also holds the Energy portfolio, also saw the launch of Odisha’s first wind resource assessment and the city accelerator programme under the PM Surya Ghar scheme for six cities to boost rooftop solar adoption.

Speaking at the inaugural session, the Deputy CM emphasised Odisha’s strategic advantages, including its long coastline ideal for wind energy, alongside solar and small hydro potential. He highlighted the state’s robust policies, streamlined approvals, and commitment to leading India’s renewable sector. “Odisha shows the commitment to be the front runner in the renewable energy sector of our country,” he said, noting the conclave’s importance for both state and national growth.

Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev stressed a holistic approach beyond mere capacity addition. “Our objective is not merely capacity addition but system integration. By advancing pumped storage and battery systems alongside renewables, we are ensuring grid stability and long-term energy security. Renewable energy scale-up in Odisha is anchored in a policy stack, supported by dedicated institutions at both state and district levels. We are placing a clear focus on industry-led renewable growth,” he said.

He announced that this year’s conclave secured Rs 67,000 crore in commitments and MoUs for 6.8 GW.

The MoUs signed by GRIDCO on behalf of the state are as follows

>> NHPC for 1,000 MW of pumped storage projects.
>> BPCL for ground-mounted solar, floating solar PV, and pumped storage.
>> NEEPCO for 800 MW of pumped storage.
>> ABC Cleantech Pvt Ltd and Axis Energy Ventures India Pvt Ltd for 5,000 MW across wind, agrivoltaic, solar, wind hybrid/solar with BESS, and green hydrogen/derivatives.
>> Vasudha as knowledge partner for floating solar PV and agri-PV projects.

The event also unveiled ambitious opportunities, including over 5,000 MW of floating solar photovoltaic (FSPV) projects, 18,000 MW of pumped storage projects (PSP) across 36 sites, and 500 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS), backed by viability gap funding.

Additional prospects in wind, distributed renewables, small hydro, agrivoltaics, and waste-to-energy were also presented.

Akash Tripathi, Managing Director of SECI, noted Odisha’s strong potential in floating solar and wind, positioning it as a major storage hub. Chandra Bhushan, CEO of iFOREST, praised Eastern India’s untapped renewable resources and Odisha’s proactive steps in floating solar, pumped storage, and batteries as vital for India’s next renewable phase.

Managing Director of GRIDCO Satyapriya Rath, underscored the role of Renewable Energy Nodal Agency (RENA) Cell in streamlining project development, transparent procurement, assured offtake, and timely bid processes.

Chairman-cum-Managing Director, OPTCL, Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, was also present at the conclave.
