Russian Assault On Kyiv Leaves Residential Buildings Damaged And Seven Dead

Kyiv, Ukraine: Russia unleashed a fresh barrage of missiles and drones on Ukraine’s capital overnight into Monday, killing at least seven people and injuring 24 others, officials said, just hours after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that another major attack was likely, AP reported.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, said in a post on Telegr

am that a residential block in the Podilskyi district partially came down. In the Darnytsia district, he said, several high-rise buildings were damaged and some residents were believed to be trapped beneath the debris.

“These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and lived their ordinary lives,” he said.

The assault, which was still ongoing early on Monday, involved successive waves of ballistic and cruise missiles along with drones. Explosions were heard across the city as civilians rushed into metro stations for shelter.

Zelenskyy had warned only hours earlier that Russia was preparing another large-scale strike on Kyiv. Monday’s attack came days after a combined Russian assault on the capital killed at least 31 people last week.

In a post on Telegram late on Sunday, Zelenskyy again urged Western allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences, especially by sending more Patriot missiles, saying that failing to replenish those stocks only encourages Russia to prolong its four-year war.
