Cuttack: Ahead of the first-round elections in Odisha, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will campaign for BJP in Cuttack on May 5.
Speaking to reporters, BJP Cuttack MP candidate Bhartruhari Mahatab said that the diplomat-turned-politician will attend an event at Nishamani Convention Hall in the city. “Several other national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will canvas for the party in Odisha in the coming days,” he said.
Bhartruhari, the steady face of BJD from Cuttack since 1998, is seeking re-election from the parliamentary constituency for the seventh term but on BJP ticket.
Earlier in the day, BJP Odisha unit vice president Golak Mohapatra had informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address two public rallies in Berhampur and Nabarangpur parliamentary constituencies on May 6. It will be the second visit by a national leader of the saffron party to Berhampur in Ganjam district, which is considered a BJD bastion, in eight days.
On April 28, BJP national president J P Nadda addressed a Vijay Sankalp Samavesh at Ambapua near Berhampur after Union Minister Amit Shah kicked off the party’s campaign in the state on April 25 from Sonepur.
