Bhubaneswar: Distinguished dignitaries, educators and student leaders from across the region took part in the AFS India Regional Meet 2025 (East Zone) which was hosted by SAI International at SAI International School, Bhubaneswar and SAI International Residential School, Cuttack.
Themed ‘Global Goals, Local Action,’ the three-day meet was aimed at celebrating diversity, promoting intercultural dialogue and fostering global citizenship.
The programme commenced with melodious AFS Song, followed by a powerful performance by the SAI Choir and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries.
Prithiviraj Harichandan, Odisha’s Minister of Law, Works and Excise, was chief guest of the inaugural ceremony.
“In today’s interconnected world, intercultural exchanges are not just desirable but essential. They allow our youth to widen their horizons, develop empathy, and learn to appreciate diversity as a strength. I commend SAI International for hosting this meet at such a crucial time, when the world needs more dialogue, understanding, and peace-building initiatives led by young people,” Harichandan said in his address.
In her welcome address, SAI International Group chairperson Dr Silpi Sahoo emphasised the school’s philosophy of nurturing globally aware and socially responsible citizens.
Eminent AFS representatives Jayant Lal, Diya Badgel, and Carolina also addressed the audience, providing insights on the transformative power of intercultural learning and its role in building bridges of peace across nations.
The meet also featured thought-provoking sessions by eminent speakers.
Dr Swati Mishra delivered an insightful address on ‘Designing Change for Peace and the Planet,’ stressing on innovative approaches to sustainability and importance of reimagining education for global goals.
Dr Kaibalya Kumar Sethi inspired the delegates with his address on ‘Youth Action for Peace and the Planet.’
Eleven schools, including institutions from Nagpur, Guwahati and Ballia (UP), participated in the meet.
