Mumbai: Saif Ali Khan was shifted from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a special room after a five-hour long surgery.
The doctors, who removed a 2.5-inch piece of blade from the actor’s spine at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, said that Saif is recovering well.
“Saif Ali Khan is doing excellent. We made him walk and he can walk well. There is no problem and not much pain,” Dr Nitin Narayan Dange of Lilavati Hospital told reporters.
“We have shifted him from the ICU to a special room. The visitors’ movement has been restricted for almost a week due to the injury in his spine. It has a potential chance for spreading infection,” he added.
The doctor also said that there is “no risk” of paralysis.
Saif was stabbed six times, including his neck, during a burglary attempt at his Bandra residence at around 2.30 am on Thursday.
Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer of Lilavati Hospital, said that Saif didn’t use a stretcher and walked into the hospital “like a lion” and was accompanied by his son Taimur Ali Khan (not Ibrahim as reported earlier).
“He (Saif) was soaked in blood when he arrived in the hospital. But he walked in like a lion. He is a ‘real hero’,” Niraj Uttamani said.
“He is very fortunate. If the knife was 2 mm deeper, he would have sustained a serious injury,” he added.
In a statement to Bandra police, Eliyama Philip, who has been working at Saif’s house for four years, said that she was the first one to spot the assailant.
She said that the knife bearing attacker entered Jeh’s room first and demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.
Revealing the details of the incident, Eliyama said that she saw the bathroom door partly open and the light on, and assumed that the Kapoors were checking on their younger son Jeh.
“… then I went back to sleep but, again, I realised something was wrong. So I woke up again and saw a man come out of the bathroom and go into the boy’s room,” she continued.
“I quickly got up and went to Jeh’s room. The attacker then put his finger near his mouth and said “Don’t make any noise, nobody will go out” in Hindi,” said Philip.
“I tried to block the attack by putting my hand forward, but the blade hit me near the wrists of both my hands and on the middle finger of my left hand,” she said.
“At that time, I asked him, “What do you want?”. To this, the attacker said, “I want money.” I asked, “How much do you want?” He said in English, “One crore”, the 56-year-old nurse told police in her statement.
Hearing the screams, Saif rushed out of his room to check what was happening.
When Saif asked the attacker what he wanted, he attacked him with a wooden object and the hexa blade.
“Saif Sir somehow managed to get away from him and we all ran out of the room and pulled the door of the room,” she said. However, the intruder later managed to escape.
