Sale Of E-Vehicles Jumps Four-Fold In Odisha So Far This Year
Bhubaneswar: The incentives of Odisha government and rising fuel prices have led to four-fold increase in sale of electric vehicles in the state so far this year compared to previous year.
As many as 3,741 e-vehicles have been registered in the state this year against 904 vehicles in 2020. Of this year’s sale, October accounted for 1025 e-vehicles, as per e-service data of Road Transport Ministry.
An e-vehicle dealer in the city assigned the reason for rise in demand for these vehicles to high fuel rates. Since operation cost of the battery operated vehicles is far less than the petrol-driven ones, the consumers going for new vehicles are opting for the e-vehicles, he added.
The state government decision on 100% exemption of motor vehicle tax and registration fees for EVs has also encouraged the consumers. In a notification on October 30, the Commerce and Transport department had stated that the exemption will be applicable upto December 31, 2025 for all types of battery operated vehicles.
The Electric Vehicle Policy approved by state Cabinet on August 27 prescribed adoption of 20% e-vehicles in all vehicle registrations by 2025.
