Badaun: A salon owner in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun was killed in an encounter with police, two hours after he allegedly hacked two children living in the neighbourhood to death and critically injured another.
Accoridng to reports, the accused, identified as Mohd Sajid, 22, barged into the house of his neighbour, contractor Vinod Thakur, around 8 pm on Tuesday and cut the throats of his sons Ayush (13) and Ahaan (6) with a sharp weapon. The incident took place in the Baba Colony under Mandi Samiti police limits.
“Today evening an unfortunate incident took place in which two children were killed. The police reached the spot and the accused tried to escape. We chased the accused. He fired at the police and was killed in retaliatory fire. The accused died on the spot. The police are investigating the case,” Bareilly Inspector-General of Police Rakesh Kumar told news agency ANI.
According to the FIR, Sajid told Singh’s wife, who runs a beauty parlour, that he wanted money for his wife’s delivery “When she went inside to take money, Sajid said that he was feeling unwell and wanted to go for a walk on the terrace and took my sons (deceased) with him. He also called his brother Javed to the terrace. When my wife returned, she saw Sajid and Javed with a knife in their hands. Sajid also tried to attack my surviving son and he sustained injuries. Both were running away and Sajid told my wife that today he had completed his work,” the FIR read.
Following the incident, locals had set shops on fire, demanding his arrest. The agitated relatives and locals also sent back the ambulance that came to take the bodies, which were later sent for postmortem amid heavy police deployment.
The reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained. Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, security personnel have been deployed in the area after the incident, to avoid any untoward incidents. Police officers and security personnel also conduct flag march in the city this morning.
