Sambalpur Jail Inmates Engaged To Sell Handmade Snacks In Food Stall

Sambalpur: In an exemplary initiative to enable the inmates of Sambalpur Circle Jail to be self-sufficient and lead the life with dignity after completion of their terms, the authorities have engaged them in selling hand-made food near the jail premises.

The inmates are preparing the snacks prepared from the materials produced in the jail and serving general public at the stall opened near the gate of the jail daily. The profit earned from the business goes to their account.

The stall has elicited a good response from the food lovers also. “The quality and taste of food here are very good. They are using good oil in cooking the snacks. They are using varieties of vegetables which are good for health. Besides, the items are prepared and served in a very hygienic condition,” said a customer.

The stall remains open from 8 am to 10.30 am and from 3 pm to 5 pm.

It may be noted that under the direction of Director General (Prisons) Santosh Upadhyay, a food processing unit was opened on the jail premises some time back. The inmate are producing handmade wheat flour and gram flour etc in the unit.
