Mumbai: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede has written to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on Thursday and alleged harassment in connection with the recent allegations made against him by Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik.
The NCP leader accused Wankhede of taking the benefit of reservation for Scheduled Castes to clear the Civil Services exam, despite being a Muslim.
Over the past few days, Malik has released a purported birth certificate and nikahnama of Wankhede as “proof” for his remarks.
Wankhede’s name in marriage with his first wife, dated December 7, 2006, shows as Sameer Dawood Wankhede, according to the nikahnama released by Malik.
The father of Wankhede’s first wife, Dr Zaheed Qureshi told reporters that the Wankhede family were practising Muslims in 2006 during the time of marriage. Qureshi claimed he had known the family for four-five years prior to the wedding.
