New Delhi: Indian Revenue Service officer Sanjay Mishra was appointed the new Enforcement Directorate Director (ED) on Saturday, in an additional capacity for three months. He has also been appointed as the Principal Special Director of the same agency.
The present ED chief, Karnal Singh, who has been heading the agency for more than two-and-half years, will retire on Saturday.
Mishra is the chief commissioner of Income Tax in Delhi and IT department. He has been involved in the probe against NDTV and guided that against the National Herald, involving the Gandhi family.
According to news agency PTI, he is also expected to be empanelled as an additional secretary in the central government, soon.
Karnal Singh’s tenure was speculated to be extended. However, the developments in CBI in past one week seems to have scuttled his chances of continuing in the post. This development is being seen as the fallout of the complaint CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana sent to Cabinet Secretary.
