Saina Nehwal, known for her exploits on badminton courts, has earned a new nickname – ‘sarkaari shuttler’.
Saina congratulated Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after BJP won the elections for the posts of district panchayat chief. In a tweet on Saturday night, Saina wrote: “Hearty congratulations for thumping victory in Zila Panchayat Chairperson election in UP @myogiadityanath sir.”
Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary took a dig at India’s first badminton player to win an Olympic medal with a sarcastic post in response to Sania’s tweet.
“Sarkaari shuttler recognizes BJP skill in smashing peoples’ verdict! I think voters need to play a subtle drop shot on celebs trying to influence their decisions!” Chaudhary tweeted.
BJP claimed to have swept elections to the posts of district panchayat chief while Samajwadi Party alleged that the ruling party had “kidnapped” voters and used “force” to stop them from voting.
Saina had joined BJP in January 2020, ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.
