Sarvodaya Leader Rabi Das Passes Away
Cuttack: Revolutionary and Sarvodaya leader Rabi Das passed away while undergoing treatment for age-related problems in a Cuttack hospital on Tuesday. He was 82.
Das belonged to Tarapur in Cuttack district. He was involved with the students’ movement while studying at Ravenshaw College in 1964. He also got involved with the communist party and became a leftist since then.
After studies, he started his professional teaching career in Ranihaat High School in Cuttack.
Then he got directly involved with the Naxalbari movement.
Das was working for landless people at many places in Odisha. He was arrested in 1970. Das was lodged in different jails of Koraput, Jeypore and Sambalpur for seven years.
He was released from the jail in 1977 and immediately got involved with the Sarvodaya movement.
Das was also working for the development of the tribal people. He had founded a social organisation ‘Gandhi Seva Pratisthana’ at Komna in Kalahandi district. He has also worked to promote ‘Khadi’.
