The ruling of a seven-judge committee of the Supreme Court stands against the resuming of regular open court hearings in the wake of the pandemic, reported The Economic Times.
ET quoted a source, “The committee, headed by Supreme Court judge, Justice NV Ramana, met on Monday and decided that courts cannot be opened for regular hearings. This is a serious situation and infection is spreading and changes cannot be taken.”
Reportedly, after seeking expert opinion the committee is likely to meet by the end of June and take decisions in this regard. Some judges expressed their sympathies with the plight of the advocates but also expressed helplessness.
The Supreme Court will have summer vacations from June 19 till July 6. The Bar Council of India has urged the top court to resume physical functioning at the earliest.
