Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to Bar Council of India, Bar Council of Odisha and bar associations in different districts of the state with regard to disruption in court proceedings due to frequent casework protests by lawyer associations.
They have been asked to file their response and appear in person before the apex court on November 14.
“The registrar of Orissa High court submitted to a bench, comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and AS Oka, that the proceedings were being disrupted in about 20 to 21 courts. The recent incident of Tangi Lawyers Bars Association president, Nakul Kumar Nayak allegedly threatening a woman Judicial Magistrate after she rejected a bail petition argued by him had also come to the top court’s notice,” Supreme Court lawyer Umakant Mishra told a local news channel.

He said that Justices Kaul and Oka expressed concern over the issue since the associations had earlier given an undertaking against disrupting court proceedings.
