Amritsar: After a 10-day pause amid heightened tensions during Operation Sindoor, the Beating Retreat ceremony at all three border checkposts in Punjab on the India-Pakistan international border will resume on Tuesday in a scaled-down format.
The ceremony will begin at 6 pm but there will be no handshake between BSF jawans and Pakistan Ranger and gates of the two sides will remain closed at the Attari-Wagah (Amritsar), Hussainwala (Ferozepur), and Sadki (Fazilka) border checkposts, Border Security Force (BSF) IG of the Punjab Frontier, Atul Fulzele, was quoted as saying.
The BSF also clarified that since May 8, the flag-lowering has continued daily, though public access was restricted for safety reasons following India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK after the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
The resumption is a significant relief for local villages near Attari-Wagah, whose economy relies on tourism and trade linked to the ceremony.
