Cuttack: The authorities of SCB Medical College and Hospital, here are gearing up for the resumption of kidney transplant process which has been stopped for nearly three months due to restrictions imposed in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Central government had allowed functioning of operation theatre a week back followed by permission to start kidney transplant three days back. The National Organ Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) has also given its consent for the purpose. But both the authorities have issued COVID-19 related guidelines for carrying out the kidney transplant.
As per the norms, the donor and recipient have to stay in isolation for 14 days. All the necessary medical tests including coronavirus will be conducted during the period and the date of operation will be fixed, sources said.
The hospital has conducted 181 kidney transplant operations since 2012 with the last one held on March 17. At present, there are two patients in the hospital for the transplant while seven more are in the waiting list, the sources said.
