School Students Walk 4 KM To Demand Recruitment Of Teachers In Odisha’s Mayurbhanj
Baripada: Worried over lack of adequate teaching staff, more than 300 students of a high school took out a march towards the office of district collector in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj on Monday to demand immediate recruitment of teachers.
The students of Subarnarekha project high school said despite repeated demand for recruitment of more teachers to ensure proper teaching by them and their parents went unheeded. Therefore, they decided to go all the way to the collectorate to apprise the authorities about their plight.
The pathetic condition at the school can be gauged from the fact that the institution has only three teachers, including the headmaster, for 339 students. As a result, the teachers are unable to complete the syllabus of any class.
The students and their parents are worried that the FA 1 (formative assessment) exams are scheduled to begin on July 28, but the students are not even halfway through their syllabus.
The students as well as their parents have been raising their problems with the Education department for a long but all their pleas have fallen on deaf ear so far.
Fed up with such apathy, the students decided to take up the matter up directly with the district collector. However, the deputy collector and tehsildar rushed to stop the students midway and promised them that quick steps will be taken to meet the requirements of the school. The students left for their homes only after the officials assured them that the issue will be taken up with the higher authorities.
