Bhubaneswar: The secondary school teachers of Odisha have threatened to stage a massive rally in support of their 21-point charter of demands in Bhubaneswar on February 7.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, general secretary of Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) Ranjan Kumar Das said the state government has not taken any steps on their demands despite holding meetings with their representative for three times.

“The government officers assure of looking into our demands in the meeting. But they remain silent subsequently on taking any concrete steps to fulfil our demands,” he said.

Their demands include extension of retirement age of teachers to 62 years, grants to eligible schools, salary system for 226 and 399 school teachers and pension for retired teachers of unaided schools.

Das said as the government has remained complacent to genuine demands of the teachers, they would be forced to resort to agitation. Around 30,000 teachers of secondary schools from across the state would participate in the rally at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar, he added.
